Interesting How Other People View It
I am always listening to other business owners, their problems, their challenges and their wins, and I am always interested in what they think.
Last week, a friend at networking, Kieran, turned to me after my 60 seconds and said, “You really are the business PT, aren’t you?” I told him when he said it I was going to steel that as I thought it really did capture the essence of what I do—a personal trainer for businesses, or more precisely, for business owners aiming to make their business fitter.
Just like a personal trainer guides individuals to achieve peak physical fitness, I support business owners in making their business reach the pinnacle it’s potential performance. Regardless of how successful a business may be, there is always room to make it better. Whether it’s increasing impact, boosting profits, or providing opportunities for others to thrive within their fantastic company, the potential for growth is endless.
Owning a business should not mean you are tethered to it. Often, business owners find themselves involved in the daily grind, unable to step back and view the bigger picture. This is where the analogy of a personal trainer becomes particularly apt. A personal trainer doesn’t just focus on immediate gains but on sustainable, long-term health and fitness. Similarly, my goal is to help business owners work on their businesses, not in them.
The distinction between owning a business and working in it is crucial. I hold shares in several businesses, yet I don’t spend a single hour working in them. This autonomy is not just a luxury but a strategic choice. It allows you to focus on making your business robust enough to operate independently. The ultimate aim is to create processes, systems and structures that enable your business to thrive without your oversight.
This approach not only liberates you it also allows others within the organisation to step up and shine. By creating an environment where employees take ownership and drive the initiatives that take the business forward, your business can achieve a level of growth you can not achieve on your own.
For those who find themselves still working in the business rather than on it, there is hope. The journey to a more effective business model begins with a shift in mindset. By embracing the role of a business personal trainer, I offer can offer you guidance and support when you are ready to transform your business into something that can stand strong on its own, and this by the way makes an exit possible should you want that too.
To finish off this article, the role of a business personal trainer is to make it easier for business owners to build better businesses. By focusing on strategic growth, systemisation, and empowerment, I help businesses reach their full potential. So, if you or someone you know is ready to step back and let their business flourish independently, remember that the journey to a better business begins with the right guidance and mindset.
