It is a Good Idea Though
Hey there, today I want to dive into a crucial topic in the world of marketing and customer service. We’re talking about breaking free from the “me too” approach. You know what I’m talking about – when businesses all sound the same, when you’re shopping for something and need a referral because everyone is telling you what you want to hear and everyone is promising excellent service. Well, let me tell you, that strategy is a one-way ticket to mediocrity!
In a world that’s constantly evolving, standing out is not just an option; it’s a necessity. Constantly telling people you have fantastic customer service, wonderful people and that your customers love you might seem sensible, but it’s actually a risky move. Why? Because it makes you invisible. When you sound like everyone else, you become just another voice in the crowd, and in today’s competitive landscape, that’s the last thing you want.
One of the most common responses I hear when I ask business owners what makes them different is “our customer service.” But here’s the kicker – if everyone is saying the same thing, then it’s not different at all! Claiming superior customer service as your unique selling point is like saying you have air conditioning in your car. It’s expected, not exceptional.
I am not for one minute suggesting that you should have fantastic customer service, only that people will only experience that after they have brought from you and if every single supplier they come across says the same thing they can’t all be lying right? So, what really makes you different, what makes you stand out?
People don’t notice you because you might have good service, in fact let’s be clear good service is what people expect, and all your competition have good service, some of them have excellent service and maybe one or two have outstanding service, so how exactly do you mean to stand out to new customers.
Standing out means being different and in this context that means delivering something that no one else can, that your customer gets an outcome that they simply can not get elsewhere. This then is the secret to standing out, to beating the competition, to becoming the go to place for your industry.
The challenge is this is difficult it takes effort and more it takes courage to stand out from the crowd and say this is what you stand for, this is why you are better than all your competition.
Yet easy will never make you proud and it will never make you wealthy and it is very unlikely to grow your business, so I urge you to take the time and work out what really makes you different and then tell people that is why you stand out.
Then you can deliver than fantastic customer service and they will keep coming back time and time again.
