Making performance more predictable

I am often asked at networking events, parties and when meeting new people what it is that I do, and it’s not always that easy to explain to people who don’t own a business.

Every owner I speak to in some way shape or form would like their life to be a little easier, not easy just easier, they want more predictable leads, sales, better customers, staff that get it right nearly all the time, most of all they want to know that the future will be better than the present, or at the very least not worse, and most of all they want clarity on what they need to do to make that happen. In simple terms they want predictable good performance.

What I do in fact, is whatever needs to be done to help a business owner create a more predictable future, and even that is not easy to explain, although as I have never been one to shy away from a challenge, I will do my best to explain that now.

Think of this as a 3 Step plan.

Start with what that means for you

The get a predictable future as a business owner you need to create a business that performs more predictably, that is on track to achieve its goals and deliver on its mission, and that starts with understanding that there needs to be a mission and a set of goals in the first place, not some dream of a future where your business miraculously just works and nothing ever goes wrong, life is not like Hollywood, this needs to be something that everyone that works for you or with you buys into, something that perpetually drives the business forward even if you are not there. This is the first thing that I help owners with and it’s how we get started.

Discover what’s in the way

Knowing the end point of what you are setting out to create is the starting point, but its not even close to being enough to get you there, once you know what the destination is you need to know what stands between you and your end point, is it structure, marketing, sales, operations, cashflow, attracting the right talent, your leadership, poor management practices, are you over burdened with costs, in the right market or any of a hundred other possible barriers to getting the business you want. This means helping owners make sure they have the right measures in place to know what the current biggest block to progress is.

Overcome the obstacles

When you know what is in the way I can help you understand what you need to change about you and the business to overcome that block, and when you understand what to change I can help you change it, this is not easy and it starts with understanding that you as the owner are responsible for all performance and accountable for everything that happens, that doesn’t mean you have to do anything but your business is the way it is because you made it like that, so to change it means you need to change, and that is a process that takes a lot of time as once you overcome one obstacle, grow and become better you will unearth another and another and so on until you get where you want to be, and by then you will want to be somewhere else.

What I do is help business owners and entrepreneurs to create the future they actually want, the one they dream of and often don’t tell people about, and the ones I work with, well every one of them is a fantastic human being wanting to create a place where not only they are looked after but their employees customers and even suppliers, they have big hearts and what I do is help them deliver on that potential, this is why I am so blessed, I get to do something I am bloody good and absolutely adore every day.
